What Sift does

Sift reads the ingredients and steps out of a recipe page you point it at, and keeps them in a form you can cook from. It always keeps a link back to the original.

Ember is Sift's assistant. Ask it what to cook and it answers with real dishes. Hand it a recipe and it reworks the dish for how you eat, or estimates macros where the page printed none. Give it two versions and it says where they differ. The macro estimate is free; the rest of Ember is Sift Pro.

Recipes you save

Recipes belong to whoever wrote them. Saving one here is for your own personal cooking, the same as writing it on a card. Do not republish or sell what you save. Sift does not claim any rights over it either.

Use it sensibly

Do not use Sift to bulk-copy another site, to get around a paywall, or to do anything the source site forbids. Ember is for cooking; ask it about anything else and it points you back to the kitchen.

Cooking is on you

Sift shows what a recipe said. It does not check whether that recipe is safe, accurate, or right for your allergies. Cooking temperatures and food safety are your responsibility, and the original source is always one tap away.

The same goes for Ember. Its swaps and its macro numbers are estimates from a model, and a model can be wrong. Treat what it says the way you would treat a tip from a friend who cooks, and check anything that touches an allergy yourself.

Availability

Saved recipes work with no connection. Saving a new one or searching needs the internet, and so does anything Ember does. Those depend on services we do not control, and when one of them is down Sift says so and the rest keeps working.

What it costs

Most of Sift is free and stays that way: capture, Cook Mode, step timers, ingredient swaps, unit conversion, the Safari extension, sync across your devices, Compare's side-by-side view, macros (Ember's estimate included, for pages that publish none), 20 web-wide searches a calendar month, and a library with no limit on it. Sync, Ember's estimate and the 20 searches need an account, which is free; signed out, search runs on the catalog. Once the 20 are used, search runs against the catalog until the 1st of the next month. Nothing you have saved is ever held behind a payment.

Sift Pro

Sift Pro adds Ask Ember, Optimize, Compare's written answer from Ember, and web-wide search with no monthly cap. Ember is the assistant described at the top of this page, and web-wide search looks past the catalog to every recipe site on the web.

Both Pro plans carry a free introductory offer: the first time you subscribe, the first three days cost nothing. When those three days end, Apple charges the plan price and the subscription runs on from there, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before they end. Apple runs the offer, so it comes once per Apple Account, and the sheet shows it before you confirm only while your Apple Account still qualifies. Sift runs no trial of its own. A free account keeps everything the section above lists and never turns into a bill.

On iPhone and iPad, Pro is an auto-renewing subscription bought through the App Store. It comes in two lengths: one month for $4.99, or one year for $27.99. Those are US prices; the App Store shows the price in your own currency before you confirm. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm, or, when the free three days applied, once they end.

The subscription renews on its own, for the same length at the same price, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the current period ends. You manage it and cancel it in your App Store subscription settings (Settings, then Apple Account, then Subscriptions); the Manage subscription button in Sift opens that same screen. Cancelling stops the next charge, and Pro keeps working until the period you already paid for runs out. Cancel at least 24 hours before the free three days end and nothing is charged; Pro stays on until they end.

Refunds go through Apple, because Apple took the payment. Ask at reportaproblem.apple.com; Sift has no way to issue one itself.

Pro needs a Sift account. Ember runs on our servers against your account's subscription, and the account is what lets Pro follow you to a second device. Sign in before you subscribe, and if a device ever forgets, Restore purchase on the same account puts it back.

If you unlocked Pro on the web with a one-time payment, that unlock stays yours. Nothing about it changes and there is nothing to renew.

Ending things

You can delete your account from your profile whenever you like. That removes your email, your profile, your purchase record, and anything synced to our servers. Recipes on your device stay unless you ask for them to go too, because they are your work and were never part of your account.

Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Apple keeps billing until you cancel it in your App Store settings, so do that first.
